For example, a customer buying one new game per month at $70 would accumulate roughly $17 in points annually. While modest, this benefit has been a meaningful incentive for loyal customers who frequently purchase new releases.

According to the memo, points accrual will end for new members beginning July 15, 2026. Existing members who renew before that date can continue earning points until August 15, 2026, after which all remaining points will expire permanently for all members. Despite this significant reduction in benefits, GameStop appears to have no plans to lower the annual membership fee, which remains at $25. The program has already been diminished by the earlier discontinuation of the Game Informer magazine subscription.

The announcement has caused considerable frustration among GameStop's frontline employees, who are already operating under difficult conditions. Workers are held to aggressive sales targets and given substantial responsibilities despite receiving below-market wages. Staff members are now questioning whether they will still be pressured to aggressively upsell customers on a membership that offers fewer benefits. One employee shared their exasperation on Reddit, expressing dread at having to explain the changes to already-frustrated customers who had been unable to redeem their points.

Some employees are even calling for a collective boycott of the Pro Membership in protest. They argue that a coordinated decline in Pro membership sign-ups across all stores would force the company to acknowledge its poor decision-making, even if leadership may not ultimately reverse course.
