Canada's federal government has begun reviewing citizenship certificates recently granted under Bill C-3, a law that took effect in December 2025. The legislation was designed to help so-called 'Lost Canadians'—people born abroad who could claim Canadian citizenship through ancestors beyond the first generation. However, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent notices on June 13 asking some recipients to surrender their certificates while their applications are re-examined for sufficient documentation.

The letters, obtained by CIC News and CBC, informed recipients that their files suggest they 'may not be entitled' to hold a Canadian citizenship certificate. The government has stressed that these are not formal citizenship revocations but rather administrative reviews. Affected individuals will be given the opportunity to submit additional evidence before any final decision is made, and certificates will be returned if the review confirms entitlement.

IRCC stated that a 'limited number' of new citizens received these review notices. Applications were flagged for two primary reasons: supporting documents were not obtained directly from official record-holding authorities, or applicants failed to explain why such official records could not be obtained. The agency emphasized that proving citizenship by descent requires establishing an unbroken chain of parent-child relationships through each generation using government-accepted evidence.

Some applicants reportedly relied on genealogy websites such as Ancestry or FamilySearch rather than official vital statistics offices or civil registries. Others submitted archival records that the government did not consider sufficient. In certain cases, applicants could not locate records but neglected to include documentation proving they had made genuine attempts to obtain them, further complicating their claims.

IRCC reiterated that having Canadian ancestry alone does not automatically confer entitlement to citizenship. The agency said it has been clear about documentation requirements from the outset. The reviews have nonetheless left many new citizens stunned and anxious, as they now face uncertainty over a status they believed had been formally granted. The outcome of each case will depend on the additional evidence applicants are able to provide.

Actor Patrick Gibson's performance is singled out for particular praise. His confident portrayal, characterized by a lopsided smile and a slightly tilted head, makes it entirely plausible that this younger Bond has already accumulated extensive romantic experience. Many of his early in-game missions involve flirting with or gracefully rebuffing women. The author concludes that Gibson's Bond achieves something distinctive: he is compelling in a way that feels adult and psychologically grounded rather than purely superficial.
